The Lions Mane Jellyfish is the largest jellyfish in the world. They have been swimming in arctic waters since before the dinosaurs (over 650 million years ago) and are among some of the oldest surviving species in the world.
The largest can come in at about 6 meters and has tentacles over 50 meters long. Pretty amazing when you think these things have been swimming around for so long.
They have hundreds of poisonous tentacles that it used to catch passing by fish. it then slowly drags in it’s prey and eats it.
That is terrifying.

Can’t wait for season 7 of Dexter
Last week was very enjoyable! The week got better since I had both my French tests the day after getting back from La Rochelle. Speaking of La Rochelle, the town was very exciting filled with many small vendors which reminded me of Milford Memories, an annual summer festival which takes place in my town and is fun for all ages. It remained sunny all weekend in La Rochelle which meant that the beach was a must. Traveling with my friends Meg and Sarah, we did a bit of shopping on Saturday and ate plenty of yummy seafood while there. Having burned like a rock lobster, my Moms Meg and Sarah proposed we go to the aquarium on Sunday. I’ve been to many different aquariums before but this one had a very cool twist to it, not to mention the rooms were categorized by region and had an outstanding variety of sea life. Back to my adventures in Tours, Thursday was Bastille Day (le 14 juillet = no class) so of course all the people in my program went out on Wednesday and fêted hard. We danced at the Guinguette for the most part and went to Place Plume to hang afterwards. Thursday afternoon, most of the group met up at a park just north of the train station where we had lunch and celebrated Bastille Day French style. Some silly French people had firecrackers and were lighting them making our lunch seem not as peaceful but it was fun nonetheless. Most everyone went out and saw the fireworks that night but I had too much fun the night before so I decided to stay in. Saturday morning, we went on an excursion to Mont St. Michel and St. Malo and my friend Steve and I had nearly missed the bus which had planned to leave at 7am. The trip there took about four hours there and four hours back. The weather being overcast and occasionally rainy made the trip less fun but we made the best of it in several ways. Good memories are always made on long trips! Sunday was a day of rest for sure for me. I caught up on homework and watched a movie in French with my host family called, “Mes amis, mes amours”. It was a very typical French movie and simple enough for me to follow. I enjoyed spending some family time with the Giraults! It reminded me very much of home.
Gabe, Sarah, and I went to La Rochelle for a weekend trip. It’s a small beach town that’s close by and was just what we needed.
We had great seafood the first night at a restaurant called “Le Bateau Ivre” or “Drunk Boat”. I wasn’t a big fan of mussels or “moules” before coming here, but now I…
With already one month having gone by, I feel as though my time here has not nearly been enough. From taking excursions to chateaus to drinking wine and cheese like a typical Frenchman, I have grown accustom to French culture and am just now beginning to really learn the language and feel like a student back in college. We visited the Chateau de Chenonceau on Monday and I found it to be a very beautiful castle having taken a boat ride on the Cher to view it from below. Not spending too long there, we traveled to Villandry near Tours where we tasted wine at a small wine producing factory. We had the privilege of taking a tour through the wine caves and getting a first hand look at how wine is made and of course how it is drank including the many types produced. The next day was the first day of classes for me. Checking the sheets of paper outside of the school, I could look up what classroom I was in and what level I am in based on an entrance exam that we took prior to our week vacation. It turns out I was placed in level 7 out of the highest being level 9. Classes have not been too complicated for the most part but I am trying my best to learn as much as I can in the month I have left. Tomorrow I am leaving after class to La Rochelle for the WE with my friends Sarah and Meg. We will be staying at a hotel not too far from the beach. I will take plenty of pictures so don’t worry!
